Diamond Multisite Widgets

This entry is part 1 of 2 in the series Diamond Multisite Widget Series

Since I’ve setup a blog network with multiple blogs I thought it would be nice to display a list of all the sites in a sidebar on all the sites. It turns out there is a great plugin for this called Diamond Multisite Widgets. It not only has a widget to list all the blogs in a network but also to list recent posts and comments from around the entire network. As a bonus it has a “broadcast” function which allows you to select multiple blogs to publish a post to.

Unfortunately it hasn’t been updated since 2011. Apparently at that time you could only add each widget to one place on the site. Some of the themes I am using have different sets of sidebars for each type of post. This means I’d want to add the Diamond widgets to each of those, but I can’t.

I’m going to attempt to dig in to the code and find out what has to be changed to make it possible to use the widget more than once per site. It will be my first time digging in to any WordPress code so it may take a while to get it figured out, but I’m excited to give it a try.

Step 1: Download the Duplicate Widget Plugin

The End.

Seriously though, since this solves the problem I’ll be much less motivated to fix the plugin but we’ll see. Maybe it will happen anyway.
